Sono oggi qui per parlarvi di uno dei romanzi che più mi ha appassionata degli ultimi tempi, si tratta di una serie post-apocalittica sci-fi scritta a quattro mani da Lindsey Fairleigh e Lindsey Pogue. “After The Ending” è il primo romanzo della serie omonima ed è uscito il 22 Febbraio 2013. Questo libro mi ha colpito molto, lo devo ammettere. L’idea di base è molto semplice e terrificante: un virus colpisce l’intera popolazione mondiale, il governo parla di una semplice influenza, ma quando la gente inizia a morire è chiaro che non lo è. Mi sono ritrovata a pensare intensamente a questa esperienza, soprattutto perché come nel caso delle due amiche/narratrici della storia anche io sono molto lontana dalla mia migliore amica. Cosa succederebbe se di colpo arrivasse un virus che uccide tutto e tutti e l’unica persona al mondo che ti rimane si trova a migliaia di chilometri di distanza? Io spero di non scoprirlo mai, ma di certo la storia di Dani e Zoe inizia così, quando entrambe scoprono di essere sopravvissute alla “Fine” e fanno in modo di ritrovarsi, a qualsiasi costo. Anche se significa uccidere, rubare, proteggersi con tutte le forze, la loro missione rimane quella, sopravvivere per incontrarsi di nuovo.
“After The Ending” è la storia di una grande amicizia che riesce a sopravvivere alla fine del mondo. I personaggi sono tutti ben delineati e le loro reazioni sono perfettamente plausibili con la loro personalità. Anche se non ho apprezzato il comportamento iniziale di Dani, colpevole di essere stata un po’ frivola nel lasciarsi andare ad un nuovo amore quasi subito dopo la morte del fidanzato, l’ho adorata come personaggio, ancor più di Zoe. E come non citare le storie di amore che nascono lungo il corso del romanzo? Da vera amante del genere romance, le ho amate!
Altro punto di forza del romanzo è la doppia narrazione, anche attraverso lo scambio di email delle due amiche che andrà avanti fino alla fine. Ho notato un paio di occasioni in cui gli eventi accadono in parallelo, nella vita di una e dell’altra ragazza, forse in un modo troppo poco verosimile, ma tutto sommato saranno due esperienze di vita ben diverse quelle che vivranno Dani e Zoe. Mentre la prima si ritroverà a “combattere” con una vecchia cotta, la seconda scoprirà abbastanza presto di aver sviluppato una nuova dote.
Questo romanzo, scritto a quattro mani, vi porterà alla fine del mondo e vi farà ricominciare tutto d’accapo, con la speranza che solo il genere umano è in grado di avere nel momento più tragico della sua esistenza. Il finale al cardiopalma, poi, vi terrà col fiato sospeso fino al prossimo libro.
This book impressed me a lot, I must admit. The basic idea is very simple and terrifying: a virus affects the entire world population, the government is talking about a simple flu, but when people start to die it is clear that it is not. I found myself thinking deeply about this experience, especially because, as in the case of the two friends/narrators of the story, I am also very far from my best friend. What would happen if suddenly came a virus that kills everything and everyone and the only person in the world that remains is located thousands of miles away? I hope I never find out, but certainly the story of Dani and Zoe begins when both discover they have survived the “Ending” and make sure that they will meet, at any cost. Even if it means killing, stealing, protect themselves with all their strength, their mission remains that, to survive to meet again.
“After The Ending” is the story of a great friendship that is able to survive the end of the world. The characters are all well defined and their reactions are perfectly plausible with their personality. Although I did not appreciate the initial behavior of Dani, guilty of being a bit frivolous in letting go to a new love almost immediately after the death of her boyfriend, I loved it as a character, even more of Zoe. And how not to mention the love stories that arise along the course of the novel? As a true lover of romance genre, I loved them!
Another strong point of the novel is the double narrative, including through the exchange of emails of two friends that will go on until the end. I noticed a couple of occasions where actions occur in parallel in the life of a girl and the other, perhaps in a way too improbable, but overall there will be two very different experiences of life those who will live Dani and Zoe. While the first will find herself to “fight” with an old crush, the second will find out soon enough that she has developed a new dowry.
This novel, co-written by two writers, will bring you to the end of the world and make you start all over again, only with the hope that mankind is able to have in the most tragic moment of his existence. The final heart-pounding, then, will keep you in suspense until the next book.
